Visit the Discovery Garden

The Discovery Garden is a native plant garden located outside the Library in the space that adjoins the Teen Lounge and the Children’s area of the Library.  Families, classes, plant enthusiasts of all ages, and anyone looking for a place to observe nature or read a book outdoors is invited to enjoy the Discovery Garden at any time that the Library is open.  Tours can be arranged for youth or adult groups, as well.

Learning for All Ages

Rose Garden PatioVisitors will find a cart of books about native plants and wildlife as well as Discovery Garden activity bags for families to use for a self-tour of the garden.  Each bag includes an Activity Sheet with suggestions for getting the most out of a visit to the garden.  Binoculars for viewing birds in the area are also available at the Customer Service Desk.  The Discovery Garden is Simi Valley‘s demonstration garden for native plants. Community groups of all ages are invited to visit the garden or book a tour.

Background

The City of Simi Valley was awarded the U.S. Green Building Council’s Legacy Project Grant to upgrade this underutilized outdoor space of the Library.  Ninety young plants native to the Simi Valley area were installed in the Fall of 2018, and the community is invited to watch them flourish, filling the space and attracting native wildlife and insect species for years to come.
