Friends of the Library

The Simi Valley Friends of the Library is a non-profit organization that works in support of the Simi Valley Public Library. The Friends are best known for their volunteerism, special programs, fundraising and Friends of the Library Bookstore which is located inside the Library.

By volunteering their time, members of the Friends group enable the library to offer services and materials that would otherwise not be covered by regular funding. As community volunteers, Friends’ programs are designed for every age group and interest throughout the City. Individual and community service organizations have supported the Friends throughout the years to help make library services special.

Membership with the Simi Valley Friends of the Library means making a difference in the Library services available to the community. Many of the programs that the Library offers are a direct result of the Friends. As the demand for library services, open access to books and computers, educational opportunities to support lifelong learning, public meeting rooms, and galleries for local artists continues to rise, the Friends that make the difference.

How To Donate:

For current information regarding the accepting of donations, please see the Friends of the Library website or Facebook page.

The library accepts donations of most book and media items in good condition, except for encyclopedias, textbooks, and VHS tapes. Some items donated to the library will be added to the library collection or used to replace older copies of items with newer ones. Otherwise, donated items will go to the Friends of the Library Bookstore, of which proceeds go to purchasing new library materials and library programming.

Directly off the Library’s parking lot there is a gate with a white sign indicating that this is where book donations are accepted. During business hours this gate is unlocked, and you can simply leave your donation on the table within the enclosed area and Friends of the Library volunteers will collect and sort through these items. If you would like assistance with your donation or have a high volume of items you can also knock on the inner door and a volunteer can will come to help you. Volunteers are generally available to help with donations up to about an hour before the library closes.

If you would like a form to acknowledge your donation for taxation purposes, we will also be able to provide that to you at the time of your donation.
