Join us February 24th for our Read Across America celebration!

The Simi Valley Public Library and the Simi Educators Association invite you to visit the library on February 25th between 10:00am and 1:00pm to take part in our Read Across America celebration!

What is Read Across America?

Read Across America originally launched in 1998 by the National Education Association; it’s a celebration by educators in schools, libraries, and beyond focusing on the joy of reading. A key part of Read Across America is that reading is for everyone, of any age, and that there are books for everyone to enjoy regardless of who they are and what their interests may be.

How are we celebrating at Simi Valley Public Library?

Organizations from all across Simi Valley will be taking part; it will be a day filled with music, crafts, activities, and readings by Simi Valley’s community leaders and partners. We’ll be hosting readings every ten minutes! Community leaders including city council and SVUSD board members have graciously agreed to help us celebrate this day of reading!

Did you know that this year is the 50th anniversary of Little House on the Prarie? To commemorate this fantastic adaptation of a children’s classic book by Laura Ingalls Wilder, we have even more special guests! Dean Butler, Pam Roylance, and Charlotte Yerkes and more from LHOTP original cast and crew will also join us to read throughout the event!

Coloring Contest

We are also hosting a coloring contest as part of our Read Across America and Little House on the Prairie celebration. The coloring pages are available here as well as on our calendar and social media, and children up to ten are welcome to participate. When you’re done, please return the completed page to the library circulation desk by February 24th.
